Family circumstances caused us to move to London from Kyiv in 2008. On my first visit it rained all week and that made for an overall miserable experience. I assumed the move would be temporary but London grew on me in these past two years and now I would not want to live anywhere else.
Early in the morning we like to go for breakfast at the Pavilion Cafe in Victoria Park, then go for a walk or ride the bike around the park or along Regent's Canal. The second best thing is to look at art at the various galleries – so much to see here – from the National Portrait Gallery to the many places down Vyner Street.
I am an artist. My paintings document my day-to-day life here and people that I come across. I paint one small painting with oil paints on wood board nearly every day. Presently East London's environs serve as the setting. It felt very useful to be photographed [for this project] and on the receiving end for a change. The commission also gave the opportunity to make a new friend – Catherine Balet – who photographed us for this project.
