For this one off portrait I wanted to portray a real life essence of London, not a highly polished version. The portrait was shot with a large format camera, which I always prefer to use as it suits my relatively slow way of working.
The shoot took place near London Bridge, a location steeped in history and now also greatly transformed with its Qatari connection: the new Shard building. We shot a variety of locations but in the end I chose this portrait as it conveyed just a very normal London scene and a proud London resident.
I had never met Abdulla before the shoot but we are now good friends. I am fascinated by Qatar's recent history and hope to visit the country very soon.
Together these portraits (from The World in London project) give a fascinating view of the brilliant and rich tapestry of London that creates such a vibrant and eclectic city.
