I was born and lived in Yerevan, Armenia, before I came to live in England at the age of 14. I studied at high school here, did my GCSEs and A-levels, after which I went to university. I now hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a Master's degree in Mental Health and Well-being. I currently work as a Health Recovery Officer with the mental health charity MIND.

I met Nelly through this commission – it was a short, but intensive encounter. This shoot took place near Nelly's house. She lives, in my opinion, in a typically British two bedroomed flat in a brick house, with her husband who is also Armenian.
We spent some time together talking before the shoot. I asked her to choose what clothes she wanted to wear and the location. We worked together on the staging and gestures. I often use this approach in my personal work, for example in my series Russkie. The shoot lasted for several hours. I think that this project also reflects the 'world of today' in many other places – various, beautifully mixed and (hopefully) becoming more tolerant.
